Laureana Toledo (1970)
She started her career as a photographer, subsequently integrating drawing, painting, video, sound and sculpture into her practice. Her works deal with the simultaneous representation of different forms of language and communication, from the purely visual to the spoken word, from flat fields of color to images of restless motion and chaotic sounds, all of which seem to be striving to convey a meaning in some secret code.
Born in Ixtepec, Oaxaca, Mexico. She has presented solos exhibitions at Galeria OMR in Mexico City (2002), Space d'Art Ivonneamour Palix, in Paris (1999), and has participated in a number of exhibitions, including Surface (Lunds Konstall, Lund, Sweden, 2001), and Migration Patterns (Whitechpael Gallery, London, 2000).
