Pablo Vargas-Lugo (1968)

(Being both an artist in the exhibition and the curator of the project, I will try to address my own work as impartially as possible.) My work has dealt from its very beginning with the practice of drawing, moving also into the fields of sculpture, installation, video animation and digital media. My main concern is the rendering of instability in images and scales, and I try to achieve this through the weaving of different motives, references and media, which undermine each other creating a fluctuating field of meaning and perception.

I was born in Mexico City, and studied visual arts at the National University of Mexico. My work has been presented in solo exhibitions at Sala Siqueiros, Mexico City (2003); Galleria Maze, Torino (2001); Art & Idea, New York (2000); Museo Carrillo Gil, in Mexico City (1998). I have also participated in exhibitions at the UCLA Hammer-Museum, Los Angeles (2003); Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Berlin (2002); PS1, New York (2001) and Palacio de Bellas Artes, Mexico City, (2001). I have also written since 1991 for magazines such as Jornada Semanal, Curare, Alegria, Vogue Mexico and Poliester; and participated in conferences, round tables and discussions in Mexico City, New York, Montreal, Stockholm and New Delhi, among others.
